Custom Built Guitars and Repairs

psalm: from the Greek psallein "play on a stringed instrument".

How long will it take to repair my guitar?
It often depends on several factors. Most repairs require that the guitar climatize to the shop. This can take as much as three days, but usually 24 hours will do. First come first serve is the general rule, but it is often efficient to perform smaller repairs while other guitars are clamped up, in a jig, or have drying glue. Call for the current work flow in the shop and what timeframe you can expect. Please keep in mind, seldom does a guitar come into the shop for extensive repair that doesn't throw some kind of curve ball and it is almost impossible to put a deadline on these repairs. Quality is a much higher priority than speed, but getting your guitar back to you is our goal.
How much does a custom handcrafted guitar cost?
Commisioning a custom guitar involves many different factors. There are options when selecting materials and design that can fit most any budget. Inlays, bindings, and other special touches add to both the time and cost of the commision. In general, one can purchase a custom made handcrafted guitar for less than many of the mass produced varieties.
What types of material do you build with?
The proliferation of many exotic woods, like Brazilian Rosewood, have made acquiring these materials costly and difficult. If it is important for you to commision a guitar with a specific material like this, call me and we'll see about accomodating that. I strongly discourage using BRW or other exotic woods recognized by CITES as being endangered. There are great alternatives. It is not possible for anyone to build a guitar as magnificent as Gods creation of beautiful trees and exotic animals. Tortoise shell, non-fossilized ivory, baby seal hide lined cases, bald eagle beak inlays, and manatee glue or out of the question.
Can you build me a Les Paul Gold Top or put a Fender Logo on my Squire?
No. Psalm Guitar commisioned guitars are original and one of a kind. While traditional styles can be accomodated, copying existing models or using fake logos is not a service we offer.
What hours are the shop open?
It is impossible to set a specific time our shop is open. It depends on our work load and schedule. Psalm Guitars is a small operation where the customer deals directly with the owner and luthier. Please call for the best time to visit.
Where does the name Psalm Guitars come from?
